TABOO GOOD
TO BE TRUE ???
Rumours were flying last night that Julian is to take a starring role in Boy George's West End musical Taboo. The Stage newspaper suggested Julian was 'in negotiations' with the producers. Although neither Julian or his management company are prepared to confirm or deny the rumours at present. Boy George was questioned last
night, at a special after show Taboo Q & A session, and seemed surprised by the news, & claimed he
hadn't heard anything about it. We will keep you posted! |

The story so far... I was so surprised when I read the news, and I couldn't wait to ask Julian all about it. I hadn't yet been to see Taboo, so I had absolutely no idea what part he'd be suitable for. I emailed Stuart at 100% Boy, to see if he could shed some light on the subject. He politely informed me that everyone in Taboo could 'sing like a bird !' so we were left wracking our brains all weekend as to who Julian would be! I got to speak to Julian on the following Monday, 29th April, when he was recording the fourth series of 'It's Only TV, But I Like It' at the BBC. The first thing I asked him was "Are the rumours true?" and he said "Well sort of ." He told me he was still considering the role, and was going back to watch the show again. I asked him who he was going to be, and he said "Leigh Bowery". Well I nearly fell on the floor in shock, I never imagined he would be playing Leigh. For anyone who is unfamiliar with the (now deceased) legendary Leigh Bowery, I've provided a link on the Taboo News page. ( I saw Leigh at Heaven Nightclub when I was about 19, he was dressed from head to toe in black PVC, with a ponytail sticking out the top of his head, and one platform shoe and one ordinary shoe. His face was all covered up, and I found him a little bit scary! ), anyway - I digress! After I had got over my initial shock, I said to Julian "but it's a musical - how are you going to manage the singing??!" He informed me he was going to do his usual style of 'Speak-Sing' !!! He said he wasn't sure what to do about his hair though, (as Leigh was completely bald !) he didn't sound too keen on having to shave it all off. Well I was so excited by the news but agreed to keep it to myself for the time being, as things hadn't yet been confirmed.

I saw Julian again last night, and he said he has decided to take the part, although he is still uncertain about what to do with his hair! We will keep you informed as to when Julian will be appearing as soon as the details are finalised with his agent. To be continued... |

I went to see Julian in Taboo on
Saturday 14th September. He was greeted by a huge round of applause from
the audience when he made his grand entrance on stage.
I thought his acting was brilliant, he played the part of Leigh
perfectly, even though he had been very nervous all week and felt he was
still 'settling in' to the role. He looked gorgeous in all of
Leigh's amazing outfits, although, as Boy George said, he was a very svelte looking
Leigh - (the real one was huge ! ).
